What do a burnt-out widower, a guilt-ridden cranberry farmer, and an embittered mother have in common? They are all brought together by the small township of Hope Harbor, where a series of chance (God) encounters makes their lives entwine, interconnect and ultimately change them for the better.

There may be no complex villain or ticking timebomb, but the plot still moves swiftly and every chapter makes you want to keep reading.

I admit I was a bit nervous when I first started reading Hope Harbor. I am a self-confessed obsessed fan of Irene Hannon and picking up a book of hers which is not suspense – the genre for which she is so well known and loved for – made me worry that it wouldn’t have the same excitement and intrigue for me as a reader.

I especially liked the divergence from the typical focus on just the ‘boy-meets-girl’ plotline.

But I obviously haven’t read enough of her books. She has written other romances that I have yet to read, and I plan to hunt them out now. There may be no complex villain or ticking timebomb, but the plot still moves swiftly and every chapter makes you want to keep reading – something that always brings me back to Irene Hannon’s novels.

I also picked up on a little extra mystery in the story…will it come out in a later novel?

I especially liked the divergence from the typical focus on just the ‘boy-meets-girl’ element. The introduction of others characters, each with their own challenges and strengths, gave the story an added dimension.

I also picked up on a little extra mystery in the story…will it come out in a later novel? I hope so! I’m surprised it didn’t come out in this book, and in a way I wish it did, since I spotted it. Anyway, it’s a fine thread of intrigue that could be picked up in the next story…and I hope it comes soon.
