When I first started reading Christian historical romance, I pretty much stuck to three authors: Janette Oke, Tracie Peterson, and Lori Wick. I read a few others here and there, but since I wasn’t all that interested in Amish fiction, there didn’t seem to be too much else out there in the realm of Christian fiction.
Then a friend suggested that I read something by Francine Rivers. I read Redeeming Love, and I really liked it. I started branching out a little bit more and read some other novels by Francine Rivers and a few from Lynn Austin.
It wasn’t until I started reviewing books in 2010 that I realized how wide the scope of Christian historical fiction had become. My to-be-read pile of books contained so many new-to-me authors that it seemed I was reading a new author every month. And I loved it.
The contributors at Straight Off the Page have given their suggestions for novels that we think you will like if you like a certain author, all in the genre of Christian historical fiction. These suggestions are listed in the chart below.
There is also a neat database online called “What Should I Read Next?” where you can compare authors and create your own database of books you’ve read. You can find it here: http://www.whatshouldireadnext.com/. Another good resource for keeping up with books that you’ve read is Goodreads.
